I was walking into one of my school's in the morning when I saw a tiny twig with three small leaves sticking out of a pile of brush along the curb. Already primed with my word for the day -CHANGE - and looking for evidence of it, when I saw the tiny twig I immediately thought of the changing leaf colors at this time of year. I walked over and snapped off the twig, and carried the three leaves up to my classroom. At lunchtime I drew and painted the miniature branch with the tempra cakes my 3rd graders were using that day.
Change continued to follow me throughout the day.
I changed up my website, and when my phone suddenly stopped working, I felt the crackle of change in the air. I changed from my usual coffee routine and had tea instead. And we changed up our routine as a family and went to a high school band concert that evening because one of our past neighbors was playing flute and it was an affordable way to get to hear beautiful live Christmas music together. As we waited for the concert to start, I added the dark brown details to my leaves with a colored pencil. I am finding it so calming to create in this way.
